General
Parelean is one of the male members of Cha Faile, the society of Cairhienin and Tairens imitating the Aiel who have pledged themselves to Faile Bashere. He is a Tairen, and wears the puffy-sleeved, satin-striped coat that many Tairen nobles wear (TPoD, Ch. 8; TPoD, Ch. 30).
Parelean has a square block of a chin. Before joining Cha Faile he wore a beard, which he no longer wears because Aiel men do not have beards (TPoD, Ch. 8).
Faile thinks to herself that Selande is the brightest member of Cha Faile, with the exception of Parelean (TPoD, Ch. 8).
Timeline
- He is with the rest of Cha Faile in Ghealdan, with Faile and Perrin (TPoD, Ch. 8).
- Parelean is one of the members of Cha Faile guarding Perrin and Faile's tent. Arrela and Lacile don't want to let Perrin into the tent, but Parelean barks an order and they stand aside. As they sit down, Parelean thumbs his chin as if he is reconsidering (TPoD, Ch. 8).
- That night, Cha Faile holds a meeting. Several of the members begin to bow or curtsey to Faile when she arrives, catching themselves as they do so since they are trying to act like Aiel. Parelean almost goes down to one knee. Several of the members of Cha Faile who went to scout out Bethal report what they found to the others (TPoD, Ch. 8).
- After Alliandre swears fealty to Perrin and the men leave, Faile signals to Parelean to have Cha Faile guard the tent so that she may speak with Alliandre without interruption (TPoD, Ch. 10).
- Parelean brings Faile the news that Masema has been meeting with the Seanchan (TPoD, Ch. 30).
- When the Shaido Aiel attack, Faile tells Parelean, Arrela and Lacile that one of them must get away to warn Perrin, but Parelean is killed by Shaido (TPoD, Ch. 30).
Relationships
Perrin thinks to himself that Parelean is Faile's to the bones, but the fact that he is her husband means little (TPoD, Ch. 8).
Because Faile considers Selande and Parelean to be the brightest members of Cha Faile, and Selande is the leader of the society, Parelean is most likely close behind Selande in authority. Arrela and Lacile, at least, follow his orders (TPoD, Ch. 8).
Quotes
"The pair [Lacile and Arrela] made as if to move in front of the tent, to block Perrin's way, but a square-chinned fellow in a puffy-sleeved coat barked an order and they sat again. Reluctantly. For that matter, Parelean thumbed that block of a chin as though he might be reconsidering. He had worn a beard the first time Perrin saw him -- several of the Tairen men had had them -- but Aiel did not wear beards." (Perrin; The Path of Daggers, Chapter 8).
"The first body she saw was Parelean, sprawled on his back with his sword in one outflung hand and blood all over his fine coat with the satin-striped sleeves." (Faile; The Path of Daggers, Chapter 30).
