- Why did you choose Blue?
When I was raised to Accepted, the Tower was still fairly small, and the current system was not yet in place. I joined the Tower as a Novice and, after about three months, I passed the Accepted test; at that time, I officially requested to join the Blue as an Accepted. That's the way it was done, back then. I chose my Ajah based on the way the Ajahs are portrayed in the books. It was a very tough decision for me; I think that everyone who knew me assumed I'd choose Brown, because I am very much a scholarly type. However, I am also very much dedicated to Causes; and, the more I thought about it, the more I acknowledged that, in my Real Life, it's important to me to use my knowledge in the service of a Cause. So, I decided that I'm really a Blue; and the years have confirmed that decision for me. Fortunately for me, the Blue Ajah in the Tower just happened to be populated by a group of wonderful women who welcomed me and became a fantastic group of friends!
- Are you like the Blues in the Books?
Very much so, in that I have spent most of my life working on behalf of various Causes; however, I'm different from most of the Blues in the books, in that I don't have a manipulative bone in my body.
- Do you plot and manipulate? Do you travel a lot?
No; plotting and manipulating are just not in my nature. I enjoy traveling, however, and I hope to devote more of my time and money to it in the future.
- How was your time as Citizen/Novice/Accepted?
I wasn't a Citizen; but my time as Novice and Accepted was fantastic. The Tower was small enough, back then, that I knew essentially everyone, including Senior Members and Admins, right away. From the beginning, I felt valued and appreciated at TV.net. I really enjoyed getting to know people in a friendly and supportive environment. When I went to my first official Tower function, I felt as if I already knew many of the people there, although we'd never met before in real life.
- What things do you do for TV.net?
I made a decision, early on, not to take on administrative roles at TV.net. This was because I am always tapped for leadership roles in the organizations I join, and I really wanted TV.net to be a sanctuary for me, a break from all the responsibilities I take on in the Real World. I've stuck with this decision, although I admit to feeling guilty sometimes, when I see how much other people do for the site. I think we all need a peaceful island, an escape of some sort from the stresses of our daily lives, and for me, the Tower has served that function. I think that's why I've stayed for so long: the Tower rejuvenates me and recharges my batteries so that I can continue to work for my RL Causes.
- How did you get to read the Series?
I was sitting at work one day in 2002 (I owned a used-book store), and I was bored. I wanted something to read that wasn't too taxing -- I'd just finished Pynchon's Mason & Dixon, and I was looking for something a bit... shall we say... lighter. I hadn't read any fantasy in years, but quite a few people had been buying the WoT series, so I decided to give it a try. Halfway through The Eye of the World -- especially after that dismally executed "flashback" -- I was certain I wouldn't continue past Book One, but somehow, after I finished TEotW, I found myself jumping right into The Great Hunt. From then on, I was absolutely hooked.
- To whom are you bonded, if you're bonded?
I'm not bonded, more's the pity...
- Who is your mentee, if you have one?
I haven't had mentees, either. Same reason that I haven't taken on Admin positions.
- Who's your favorite character of the Series? Favorite Nation?
Oh, wow... I find Verin tremendously intriguing. I can't really say that I have a favorite nation...
- Have you ever attended any Real Life Functions? Did you like them if you did, and why? (Why do you think people should come to any future functions?)
Yes; I attended the Tennessee party -- I believe it was the third anniversary party?? -- in spring of 2003. It was fantastic to get to know all these people whom I had previously known only as avatars and collections of posts. I've also gone to a couple of informal Michigan Members get-togethers. Again, great fun!
- What kind of music do you like?
I like folk-rock, world music, and classical. Some of my favorites include Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, the Indigo Girls, political music from Africa and Latin America, Mozart, and Bach.
- What are your favorite movies?
I don't really like movies. Go figure. I've seen fewer than 40 movies in my entire life. Can't really say I have a favorite.
- What job do you have?
I own a used-book store. Love it, love it, love it!!!
- Do you have a pet?
I am a Certifiable Crazy Cat Lady. Four cats live with me in my house/bookstore: Beebs, Ajax, Achilles, and Subcomandante Marcos. I also take care of -- feed, get spayed/neutered/vaccinated, and take to vet when necessary -- seventeen alley cats: Gray Mama, Te'Orsa, Kubra, Drethan, Skeleton, Anaximander, La Lucha (aka Feral Mama), Big Orange, Little Orange, Langenstein, Eratosthenes, Sisyphus, Poseidon, Fernando, Antigone, Spitfire, and Twinkle-Toes.
- What languages do you speak?
English, fluently. Spanish, not-so-fluently.
- What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?
It was always assumed that I'd be a professor; what I really wanted to do, however, was write.
- Moiraine or Siuan?
Gleeps... Moiraine, I guess...
- Shienar or Saldaea?
Ummm... I dunno... Sorry...
- Tea or coffee?
Tea. Definitely.
- Books or movies?
Books. No question. Books!!!
- A short bio about yourself.
Well, let's see. I read. I write. I rescue cats. I eat way more chocolate than I ought to. I garden. I like ice cream, especially chocolate peanut butter ice cream with M&Ms sprinkled atop it. I'm a country person -- love hanging out in the woods.
