General

Deryl is a man who lives in Ebou Dar. He works as a guard at a ringmaker's stall.

He is one-eyed and large enough that Mat thinks he might have a difficult time standing up in the stall. He sits cramped in the corner of the stall on a stool and carries a long cudgel studded with nail heads.

When Mat is following a Darkfriend, Mili Skane, he stops at the ringmaker's stall in order to keep hidden and tries on a ring. When Mili Skane moves on, Mat cannot get the ring off, and the ringmaker tells Deryl to find a grease pot. Mat, in a hurry to leave, slaps some coins down for the ring. The ringmaker tells him that he has overpaid and pushes two silver pennies back towards Mat, but Mat tells him to give them to Deryl.
