Mat is Healed. Verin tells Moiriane and Siuan about the Dark Prophecy, revealing she has realized Rand is the Dragon Reborn.
Summary
Moiraine's Point of View:
Characters: Mat, Verin, Moiraine, Siuan
Setting: The Amyrlin's rooms
Mat is healed by the Amyrlin, Moiraine and other Aes Sedai linked and using an angreal. Even though they are all exhausted after the night long healing Verin informs them that it will only last for awhile as he is still linked to the dagger, and until it can be retrieved he can not be fully healed. It is decided that the only one to safely retrieve the dagger is Mat himself, who is more protected from its taint than anyone else they know. It is also decided that Fain must be found after it is theorized that he must be important to have the Shadowspawn risk entering the keep to rescue him.
Before Verin leaves she presents the Amyrlin with a translation of the writing on the wall. It appears to be a prophecy of the Shadow and Siuan cautions them not to speak of it to anyone.
The writing mentions Lanfear, a passage that worries them greatly. The Amyrlin insists though that the Forsaken are still bound. Verin goes on to explain the possible meanings of the lines, using this as an opening to mention that she knows what Moiraine and the Amyrlin are up to. They panic drawing on the power in case it must be used. Verin explains she will not go to the Reds because he is necessary for the prophecy, and she adds, it would be an interesting study. Moiraine is still ready to take any necessary action against Verin just in case even though the idea sickens her.
Perrin's Point of View:
Characters: Mat, Perrin, Leane
Setting: Fal Dara Infirmary
Perrin manages on his second attempt to sneak into the infirmary to visit Mat. He notices that Mat smells "wrong." Mat wakes up briefly and doesn't remember anything after Egwene asked him to go visit Fain with her. Right when he falls back asleep Leane enters the room and scolds Perrin for disturbing her patient. Before Perrin gets a chance to escape she grabs his face and delves him, looking for the cause of his eyes. Leane is confused by the result and attempts to question Perrin. Instead he baulks and leaves as quickly as he can, cursing his eyes.
Rand's Point of View:
Setting: Rand's rooms
Rand is unable to make himself leave even after trying all night. Angry and confused, he is lying on the bed when Perrin enters. Rand asks after Egwene and Mat, only sparking a fight when Perrin continues to call Rand "my Lord." Still Rand doesn't give up and eventually convinces Perrin he didn't mean what he had said earlier. However this brief peace is shattered when Perrin asks Rand if they will leave together and Rand tells him he can't. Perrin goes stomping out of the room slamming the door and leaving an anguished and bitter Rand.
Before he has time to dwell too much on it Lan comes in and informs him that the Amyrlin has summoned him. Lan gives Rand instructions on what to do, and when questioned he tells Rand that he is on his side. He chooses Rand's wardrobe and tells him to wear his sword despite Rand's protest. As a last touch Lan gives Rand a pin of Manetheren to wear, only saying that it will give them something to think about. Soon they are off to where the Amyrlin waits for them.
