General
Adan was a Da'shain Aiel during the Breaking of the World, and Rand's ancestor. His parents were Jonai and Alnora, his siblings Esole and Willim. Together with his wife Siedre, he had five children: Elwin, Jaren, Marind, Rhea and Sorelle.
In Rand's first vision of him, he is a white-haired old man; then a man in his middle years; then a tall, young man with weary blue eyes; and at last a child of ten.
From his first days, he had been faithful to the duty toward the Aes Sedai - and he did not abandon it, no matter the cost.

Timeline
- His father Jonai got the instruction to lead the Aiel out of Paaran Disen to a place of safety when Adan was ten (TSR, Ch. 26).
- He saw his first Ogier as a young man, on the day his father died (TSR, Ch. 26).
- Elwin, Sorelle and Jaren died one after one, Marind was killed and Rhea got taken away in a raid. During this raid, Siedre was killed as well. On the same day, his Aiel split with the Lost Ones, because for them, searching for a song to bring back happier times was more important than finding a safe place for things the Aes Sedai had given them (TSR, Ch. 26).
- When his greatdaughter, Maigran, got kidnapped during another raid years later, he and his family were ready to take the pain and go on, as the Covenant says. He would have prevented his greatson, Lewin, from rescuing his sister if he had known, but Maigran is freed in trade for the raider's life. Adan and his family do not want killers among them, and leave Lewin with his friends behind. The Jenn Aiel split with the rest (TSR, Ch. 25).
Quotes
"What of the Covenant? We harm no one. No one! There is no reason good enough to justify killing another human being." (Adan to Lewin; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 25)
