Tower Sworn Interview

October 12, 2013

Why did you choose San d'ma Shadar?

I was lured in by booze and good company.

Do you fit the San d'ma Shadar stereotype? Are you obsessed with the female anatomy? Do you often imbibe copious amounts of alcohol?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

What male character from the novels do you think would fit best in San d'ma Shadar?

Matrim Cauthon - He can buy me drinks and be my wingman. Plus he's always got your back when the chips are down.

How long have you been a fan of the Wheel of Time series?

Since I was about 16.

How did you first get into the series?

My brother (Anduin) got me into the series. He nagged me into submission, but I'm glad he did!

Who is your favorite "hero"?

Mat's the man, the reluctant hero!

Favorite bad guy/gal?

Hmmmm, that's a tough one! I'll have to pass on this one, I can't decide!

Favorite book and scene?

My favourite book is The Eye of The World. It has to be the book where it all began. I remember reading it for the first time and being hooked by the prologue. I remember experiencing the fear when Rand and the gang were being chased by trollocs, constantly on the run and only escaping by the skin of their teeth on so many occasions. This book is all about the chase, and I love it. I have a few favourite scenes but the one that stands out the most at the moment is the scene at Dumai's Wells, because everything has been building for so long. You long for Rand's freedom as he frantically deals with his shield, you feel his panic, his relief and his rage as he seeks vengeance. Then there's that final line from Taim that just sends shivers "Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt."

If you were set down in Randland, who/what would you see yourself as? An Aes Sedai? Innkeeper? Seanchan Captain?

I'd see myself starting life as a blacksmith, I'd love to spend my time working away at a forge. Feeling that sense of pride once you look down at your completed work. However I feel that the adventurer in me would want to see the world, so after a time I would most likely travel, paying for it by applying my experience. But who knows? Maybe I'd get to Tar Valon and decide to become a Warder!

How did you find TarValon.Net and what convinced you to stay and become Tower Sworn?

My brother got me into this site and the calibre of people here convinced me to become a SM.

What do you do in "real life"?

I'm just about to finish my Masters Degree in Economics at Swansea University. Once that is done it is time to go and get a job!

Do you have any hobbies?

Sports - golf, rugby, football, American football. You name it, I'm probably interested in it!

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

I like most kinds of music to be honest, but at the moment I'm listening to House music mostly.

What are some of your favorite movies / television shows?

Shawshank Redemption, The Usual Suspects, Gladiator to name a few. Love New Girl at the moment, but also love The West Wing and The Newsroom. Aaron Sorkin is class.

Aside from The Wheel of Time, what are a few of your favorite books/series?

Harry Potter is a childhood favourite.
Philip Pullman - His Dark Materials
Seer King, Demon King, Warrior King by Chris Bunch
The Alexander the Great Trilogy by Valerio Massimo Manfredi

What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

An architect, shame I can't draw!
